Sure, I am PRO-CHOICE [Your Choices Determine Your Destiny]

Yes, I am PRO-CHOICE. I am PRO-LOVE.  I am PRO-UNITY.  I am PRO-PEACE.  I am PRO a lot of things!!!

In our society, there is not a lot of value placed on CONSISTENCY.  We have been afforded a myriad of choices and we make our choices based on PREFERENCE and not PRINCIPLE; what I like rather than what is right. A principle is a foundational truth, but a foundation based on human reasoning is sure to crumble.

The Word of God is absolute Truth, irrefutable and unparalleled. I can’t convince you of that.  You must have a personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ and it is revealed to you by His Spirit. Sounds crazy?  Trust me, your mind will explode when you grasp it! The Apostle Paul says:

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

~ Ephesians 3:16-19

This power to understand is NOT human reasoning.  It is imparted from God through the Holy Spirit…”he will empower you with INNER STRENGTH through HIS SPIRIT…”

Relying on human strength and trusting in man is disobedience according to the Word. Eventually, it will cause our hearts to completely turn from Him.  He says we are CURSED when we put our trust in humans. A curse is a consequence of disobedience. Read here:

This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.” ~ Jeremiah 17:5

There is HOPE and it comes from the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. ~ John 3:6

The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.~ John 6:63

God had a solution before there was even a problem.  Why?  Because He is omniscient.  Even Death and Destruction hold no secrets from the Lord. How much more does he know the human heart! God made sure that we would not and could not know Him through human wisdom, so he has used the preaching of men and women who have been pulled from the pit of hell to save those who will believe. It is foolishness to those who are scholars of the Word, who ask for signs from heaven and will only “hear from God”. And it is foolish to those who doubt and only see naturally because they seek only human wisdom and reasonings. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

Paul said this to the church at Corinth:

When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.  I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling.  And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God. 1 Cor 2:1-5

What has happened?  Why are we trusting in human reasoning and wisdom?   We see the man and not the power of God.  We see charisma, talent, pride, accomplishment, popularity, eloquence, inspiration, prosperity, good looks…the list goes on.  But as you look at this list, are these attributes of God? Is this fruit of the Spirit?

Talent can take you where your character cannot sustain you. ~ Dr. Edwin Louis Cole

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.

The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.

So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away. Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. ~ 2 Peter 1:3-11

The Scripture above tells us that He has given us EVERYTHING that we need to live a godly life.  We received it when we became intimate with Jesus, we were impregnated with revelation, rhema. Here is what we are to do, in this order:

  1. Have faith
  2. Moral excellence
  3. Knowledge
  4. Self-control
  5. Patient endurance
  6. Godliness
  7. Brotherly Affection
  8. Love for EVERYONE

Look at that list!!!  We do it BACKWARDS!!! We try it by WORKS…we think we must love everyone and then we are considered godly which enables us to endure and have self control giving us more knowledge which of course leads to moral excellence and fortitude and THEN and only THEN we will have faith because we have “proven” ourselves worthy. NO NO NO!!!!  Faith is the SUBSTANCE of things HOPED for…we can ONLY HOPE that we would EVER fulfill this list. We can’t even have knowledge without moral excellence, that is knowledge that comes from God. Really?  How many of us are “morally excellent”? Not me!!! His grace is sufficient!  His power works in my weakness!  He uses this foolish thing to confound the wisest of them all!!!

Back to our choices…because we have a critical choice to make that will determine whether or not we can even begin to have the attributes on that list.

“Choices determine conduct, character, and destiny.” ~ Dr. Edwin Louis Cole

15 “Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster. 16 For I command you this day to love the Lord your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy. 17 “But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods, 18 then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live a long, good life in the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy.

19 “Today, I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” (Deuteronomy 30:15-20)

This is it, we have a choice and it is defined: Life (Christ) or death (Satan), prosperity (success) or disaster (failure).

Matthew 7:13-14 “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.”

He commands us to love Him and keep all of His regulations by doing what is right. We know right and wrong, our heart will tell us.  Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us that He has placed eternity in the human heart. If we do what is right and not what is wrong, we will live and be successful. He promises to bless us. He will bless our home. But it is obedience that brings this blessing.

In order to be successful, we must have good character. What I believe in my heart will always determine my conduct because my beliefs determine my choices. The choices that I make will lead to actions on my part. What I choose to act on is what I have faith in and it can either attract or repel.

My faithfulness will determine my character. Why is that? We only believe what we do and faith is belief in action! It is SUBSTANCE! It is EVIDENCE!

If we choose to believe the Truth, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we have faith in that Word, then we will obey His commands, regulations, and decrees. We must reinforce this commitment daily.  The choice to love Him and obey Him and commit ourselves to Him requires us to submit not only to the Lord but those He has called to lead us. Hebrews 13:17 “Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit”. He tells us that this is the key to life: obedience, love, and commitment to Him. We receive the promises of God (our destiny) through obedience to His Word. Obedience is God’s method of protection for our lives.

When we make a choicimagese, we are accepting responsibility for that choice. The same is true when we decide NOT to do something. That is a choice and we must accept responsibility for it. When we make choices based on the world’s standards and laws of what is acceptable, we are going to have consequences based on those choices (Galatians 5:19-21, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10). When the pleasures of our sinful choices are gone, the consequences can last an eternity.

The permission by the law of man to engage in an activity in no way negates the conviction of the Holy Spirit guiding me to righteous living.

The world may determine that it is acceptable for two women to marry and live as a family with their adopted or surrogate born or implanted children, but God’s Word tells me that marriage is for a man and a woman. The law permits me to make a decision to murder the baby that grows in my womb for reasons that I determine based on my preferences despite the fact that murder is wrong. The law tells my daughter that she cannot pray in her school disregarding that prayer is our lifeline. The law of the land gives me permission to purchase as much alcohol as I choose and consume it in the privacy of my own home leaving me in a drunken stupor rendering me ineffective and abusive which corrupts my children and leaves me shamed. The law allows me to live with my boyfriend and continue a sexual relationship. This is even called common and lawful and marriage. The law of this world permits the teaching of evolution and the big bang theory in our schools neglecting to offer the Truth about the creation of the world. The law of the ‘land of the free’ permits and even encourages the worship of idols, fornication, pornography, and blasphemy.

The world trades the Truth for a lie. The world has rejected Jesus Christ. I can make a choice: to serve man or God. Once I make that choice, I become a slave to it.

Dr. Edwin Louis Cole exhorts that “The greatest choice a person will ever make on this earth is what they will do when they leave it.”

If we continue in habitual sin, there is no sacrifice that can cover that sin (Hebrews 10:26). Our destiny will be determined based on the decision we made to reject Christ and deny the Power of the Holy Spirit. Our destination will be Hell.

The acid test of my character is my heart. Luke 6:45 says that “A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.” Proverbs 4:23 tell us to “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”

I can change my habits, adapt my personality, and foster my talents, but only Jesus Christ can change my nature, grow my character, and gift me with the Power to obtain true wealth and joy. I can choose to believe in the Life, death, and Resurrection of the Son of God and obey the Word, framing my conduct and character through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This will determine my destiny all brought about by the choice that I made to accept and open His gift because God gave me free will.

Since we believe human testimony, surely we can believe the greater testimony that comes from God. And God has testified about his Son.~ 1 John 5:9
